Pittsburgh, PA - Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin will miss the All-Star game thanks to an undisclosed malady which kept him out of Wednesdays contest. The team revealed that Malkin suffered a lower-body injury during Tuesdays overtime loss in Philadelphia which caused him to briefly leave the contest before finishing the game. However, after testing the waters during warmups prior to a shootout loss against the Blackhawks, he decided to sit out. There is no timetable for his return. Malkin hit the break with 51 points (19G, 32A), good enough to tie Patrick Kane, Claude Giroux and teammate Sidney Crosby for third in overall scoring. Later on Thursday, the Penguins announced that Crosby will also be unable to play in Columbus this weekend due to a lower-body injury which is estimated to take one week to heal. Crosby and Malkin were previously forced to sit out the 2011 All-Star weekend.
