CLEVELAND - Jason Giambi has never taken a single day as a major leaguer for granted. And at 43, the veteran sluggers not about to start. Giambi was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday by the Cleveland Indians, who also recalled right-hander Trevor Bauer from Triple-A Columbus to start against Detroit and made several other roster moves. Although he wasnt in the starting lineup to face Justin Verlander, Giambi is grateful to be back in any capacity. "Its fun to have your name on the lineup card and get a chance to help the ball club out," he said. Giambi had been placed on the DL on May 5 with a strained calf he injured a day earlier against the Chicago White Sox. It was his Giambis second trip to the DL after he fractured a rib during spring training. Before he went on the DL last month, Giambi, who has 438 career homers, was hitless in 10 at-bats. Its been a rough start. "I went basically from a broken rib, played a few games, calf injury," he said. "That kind of happens when you get that short spring training and dont get to play much. Its definitely hard to get going and come back to the cold weather, but Im excited to be back." The Indians also promoted utility man Justin Sellers from Triple-A Columbus and optioned infielder Jose Ramirez to the Clippers. First baseman Jesus Aguilar, who had two RBIs in Mondays win over Detroit, and left-hander T.J. House were optioned back to the minor leagues to clear room for Giambi and Bauer. Indians manager Terry Francona intends to use Giambi in pinch-hitting situations. Hell also be used at designated hitter, and could see more time if Carlos Santana, who is batting .148, continues to struggle. Giambi said if there was one positive about his calf injury, its that it didnt prevent him from keeping his swing sharp. "I was able to do everything," he said. "I could hit. I could do everything else. With the rib, I basically couldnt do anything. I was shut down for basically five weeks, not doing anything. "So, that was nice. I could still hit, throw, everything but run. I kept up with my hitting, which was great. I feel like I could catch up, like I dont have to make up that time to get some swings in, so thats big for me." Bauer will be making his second start. The right-hander, who went 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA in seven starts in the minors, will match up against Verlander and face Detroits fearsome lineup for the first time. The 23-year-old Bauer struck out eight in a spot start against San Diego on April 9. He took the loss, but went back to Columbus and continued to dominate. "We were glad we got a chance to glimpse the last outing, and then he went back to Triple-A and kicked it into gear," Francona said. "Weve been talking for a year, this guys a big part of what we want to do going forward. And to see him growing and understanding, its exciting." Blue Jays Ken Giles Jersey . He was attracted by the punishing defence, the strong running game and a coaching staff he trusted. The 49ers announced Thursday that Manningham had signed a two-year deal to join the team he helped knock out in the NFC championship game two months ago in their latest offensive upgrade at wide receiver. Blue Jays Dave Winfield Jersey . As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers opened their main training camp Sunday, Kuale is one of the newcomers brought in to bolster a sagging defence that ranked overall where the Bombers finished 2013, in the CFL cellar with a league high 585 points against. http://www.cheapbluejaysjerseysauthenti ... a-jersey.C. -- Al Jefferson said he feels like hes playing the best basketball of his 10-year NBA career. Authentic Blue Jays Jerseys For Sale . Interestingly, the culprits were not rookies, but well paid, experienced pros. The first gaffe came in the 24th minute of arguably the biggest early season MLS game in history between Seattle and Toronto. Sounder newcomer Marco Pappa, (with over 100 MLS games, and 39 Guatemalan Caps to his name) attempted a back pass to one of his central defenders. Blue Jays Rhiner Cruz Jersey .com) - A chant of Zeke reverberated around AT&T Stadium before Ezekiel Elliott powered into the end zone for his fourth and final touchdown. NEW ORLEANS -- Its a good thing for the New Orleans Pelicans that Ryan Anderson doesnt let an off night stop him from unleashing long-range shots with the game on the line. Anderson shook off some unusually poor shooting and hit two clutch 3-pointers in overtime that carried the New Orleans Pelicans to a 111-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. "Its important that I stay aggressive on this team. I think coach has a lot of confidence in me, a lot of faith in me and if Im passive or if I dont take a shot when Im open, it could hurt the team," Anderson said. "So when I get an open chance I want to shoot it confidently. ... You can never give up your confidence on the court, no matter how awful the shooting night you have." Jason Smith showed he is getting increasingly comfortable at centre after spending much of his early pro career at power forward. The 7-footer never backed down against the size and strength Detroit had underneath with Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. Smith scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds for the Pelicans, who snapped a two-game skid while handing Detroit its third straight loss. "He was a monster tonight," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "Heres a guy doing it on both ends of the floor, has a career night and just didnt give in." Anderson finished with 22 points on 6-of-18 shooting, including 4 of 12 from 3-point range. Jrue Holiday added 19 points and Al-Farouq Aminu, whose teammates call him "Chief," had 11 points and 14 rebounds. Asked what it meant for the Pelicans to outrebound Detroit 51-43 -- turning 16 offensive rebounds into 14 second-chance points -- Anderson said, "It means Jason and Chief battled their tails off tonight. ... It just means that we wanted it more." New Orleans also got 14 points from Tyreke Evans, whom the Pelicans expected to miss a week or two after an ankle sprain Friday. Instead, he returned without missing a game, but acknowledged he played in pain. "I just felt like I could help," said Evans, adding that he understood his team was already short-handed because of Anthony Davis broken hand. &quoot;Once I felt like I could run and cut side-to-side, I said, Im going to play.ddddddddddddquot; Monroe, a New Orleans native, had 28 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit, which led by three points early in overtime before Andersons first 3 of the extra session tied it. Brandon Jennings added 25 points and Rodney Stuckey 20 for the Pistons. Drummond had 10 points and 11 rebounds, but was disappointed New Orleans established itself as better team near the basket. "Its on Greg and I to figure it out. We cant continue to let guys come in our paint and do those kinds of things to us," Drummond said. "Its a building process and were going to figure it out. Its not going to happen for too long." Detroit had one last lead when Jennings stole the ball from Holiday and heaved the ball down-court to Monroe for a fast-break dunk to make it 103-102. Thats when Anderson responded with his second 3 of the extra period to give New Orleans the lead for good. "We lost track of him in overtime," Monroe said of Anderson. "With a guy like that, you cant give him one second to get that shot off. ... We did a good job most of the game, but he hurt us in overtime." Detroit trailed 108-106 after Jennings floater off the glass with 13 seconds left. Detroit then fouled Evans, who missed his second free throw, but Josh Smith was called for a lane violation, and Evans hit on his extra chance to seal it. The Pelicans led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter when Holidays 15-foot pull-up made it 83-71, but that lead evaporated when Stuckeys turnaround jumper late in the period began a 12-0 Detroit run that included Monroes layup and putback. Detroit finally tied the game at 96 on Josh Smiths running hook with 1:19 left. Both teams then went cold, each failing to score on a pair of possessions, and the game went to overtime after Jennings missed two jumpers in the final seconds. NOTES: Eric Gordon scored 14 for New Orleans. ... Smith scored 11 for Detroit. ... The Pistons rested Chauncey Billups in what was the Pistons second game in as many nights, while Stuckey returned from a two-game absence cause by left knee soreness.
