Maui, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jimmy Walker kept his share of the lead on Sunday and he was joined there by Hideki Matsuyama as the pair ended three rounds two strokes clear of the field at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Walker posted a 6-under 67 in round three, while Matsuyamas 66 was the low round of the day. The duo ended 54 holes at 17-under-par 202. Walker won three times in the 2013-14 season and Matsuyama earned his first PGA Tour win at the Memorial. Patrick Reed, a two-time winner last season, carded a 5-under 68. He finished alongside Sang-Moon Bae (69) in third place at minus-15. Brendon Todd (69) and Russell Henley (70) share fifth place at 14-under-par 205. Bubba Watson posted his best round of the week, a 5-under 68, and he climbed into a tie for seventh at minus-12. He was joined there by Robert Streb (71) and Scott Stallings (70), Defending champion Zach Johnson managed an even-par 73 on the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort. Johnson stands alone in 10th place at 11-under 208. Walker, who shared the second-round lead with Henley, Johnson and Bae, opened with three straight pars. Walker rolled in a 20-footer for birdie at the fourth and he followed with a 2-putt birdie on the par-5 fifth. That gave him a share of the lead at minus-13. Walker stuck his approach at the seventh within three feet. He kicked that in for birdie and that moved him atop the leaderboard. At the par-5 ninth, Walker drained a 4-foot birdie effort to move two clear of the field at minus-15. He came right back with a 12-foot birdie putt at the 10th. Walker reeled off seven straight pars from the 11th. After Matsuyama birdied the last to take the lead, Walker 2-putted from the fringe for a closing birdie, which moved him alongside Matsuyama at minus-17. Anytime you can play a round of golf without making a bogey, its big. It was kind of benign in the middle of the back nine and nothing was happening, but I kept hitting good shots, Walker said. I didnt hit too many good putts, but the par-save on 16 was big. That little putt there on 18 was kind of tricky. Matsuyama faltered to a bogey at the first to dip to minus-9. He atoned for that mistake with a short birdie putt at the fifth. He dropped in back-to-back 5-foot birdie efforts at seven and eight. The 22-year-old made it three in a row with a kick-in birdie at the ninth. Around the turn, Matsuyama parred three straight from the 10th. Matsuyama birdied the 13th and 14th to climb within one of Walkers lead. At the par-5 15th, Matsuyama chipped to six feet and he rolled that putt in for birdie and a share of the lead. After a pair of pars, Matsuyama nearly holed his eagle chip at the last, but he settled for a tap-in birdie. The fairways are wide and the greens are big, so I can be aggressive and not worry about it too much, said Matsuyama through a translator. I want to be relaxed (in the final round) and try to not let too many guys by me. NOTES: Matsuyama is one of 12 first-time participants competing this week ... Streb, who was the only player without a bogey through 36 holes, bogeyed the first hole in round three ... Kevin Stadler withdrew before the third round.
