and is far from any kind of expert when it comes to quarterbacks. Well
www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com , except for sacking them, of course. But the Denver Broncos star linebacker knew there was something special about Sam Darnold long before the New York Jets made him the No. 3 overall pick."I don't know nothing about drafting a quarterback or anything like that, but I thought he was the No. 1 pick, for sure," Miller said. "I thought he was the best offensive player in the draft."The Jets sure thought so, even if the teams ahead of them took guys on offense ahead of Darnold. Cleveland made quarterback Baker Mayfield the No. 1 overall pick, while the Giants went with running back Saquon Barkley with the next selection. The Jets pounced on Darnold when their turn came up, and Miller can't blame them."Baker Mayfield was the No. 1 pick, and rightfully so," Miller said. "But in my opinion, watching everything, from a pass rusher's point of view, I just felt like (Darnold) was the No. 1 pick in the draft. He wasn't the No. 1 pick, but he's definitely playing like it."Well, not quite. But Miller will get a chance for an up-close evaluation Sunday when the Broncos (2-2) travel to MetLife Stadium to take on Darnold's Jets (1-3).Darnold had a terrific NFL debut with two touchdown throws in New York's win at Detroit, but has struggled a bit in the three games since 鈥?all losses 鈥?along with the rest of the Jets' offense. He has just two TD passes in that span and four interceptions, although he didn't toss one last Sunday at Jacksonville."As a team, I feel like we are really close, and for me personally I feel like I'm just on the edge," Darnold said. "I've just got to continue to find completions, hit my guys deep when they're there. It'll come, it's just a timing thing. It's going to click one of these games, I know it is."This might be a tough week to get things going, though. Especially while facing a defense led by Miller, who has four sacks and two forced fumbles this season. And
Cleveland Browns T-Shirt , Darnold realizes Miller will be looking to add to those totals 鈥?despite all the high praise."It's pretty cool that he said it," Darnold said. "It's definitely very humbling, very flattering, but at the same time, we're going up against him. ... I'm just going to go out there and we're going to handle him the way that we need to and go about our business that way."Here are some other things to know about the matchup between the Broncos and Jets:ON THE CASEBroncos quarterback Case Keenum had three touchdown passes in Denver's 27-24 season-opening win against Seattle. He has none in the three games since.Keenum, who signed a two-year, $36 million deal with Denver in March, is the first Broncos QB since John Elway in 1986 to go three straight games with at least 20 throws and no TDs.SKIDDINGThe Jets are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and avoid their fourth four-game skid under coach Todd Bowles.New York ended last season by losing four in a row, and also dropped that many twice in 2016 鈥?with the team finishing 5-11 both years. Bowles is in his fourth season with the Jets and the heat has been turned up a bit under his seat. New York is 1-7 in its past eight, and 3-12 in the past 15.ON NOTICEThe Broncos are coming off their first loss in 66 home games in which they held a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, and nobody is spared criticism over Denver's Monday night meltdown in a 27-23 loss to the Chiefs."We need more from our main guys on both sides of the ball," coach Vance Joseph said of the Broncos' cratering in crunch time. And from the coaches."The bottom line is in this league in tough games, we have to be our best as coaches when it matters," Joseph said. "You can call a great game for 3陆 quarters, but for half a quarter when the game is on the line, we have to be our best. That is my job to help our players pull these games out."BUTT OUTKeenum said he was encouraged by the way Jeff Heuerman played Monday night (four catches for 57 yards, both career highs) after Jake Butt blew out his left knee at a special teams practice last week, depriving the Broncos of their top tight end for the rest of the season.Keenum said he thinks Heuerman can be the kind of safety valve he's had at that position at other times in his career, such as last year in Minnesota with Kyle Randolph."Yeah, I think Jeff's a great player. I think he showed it the other night that he's in the right place at the right time, big target and he's hard to tackle," Keenum said. "So, a guy I'm excited to get the ball to more and more."WIPE OUTIf Jets running back Isaiah Crowell gets into the end zone, all eyes will be on how he celebrates. He was penalized and given a stern talking to by Bowles after he celebrated his second TD run of the game by wiping the ball against his rear end and firing it into the stands. Crowell ended up getting fined $13,369 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct."It won't happen again
Cleveland Browns Hats ," said Crowell, who didn't score at Jacksonville last Sunday 鈥?but got an endorsement deal from a company that sells a toilet paper alternative for men.AP Pro Football Writer Arnie Stapleton contributed. The Cleveland Browns had only one player completely miss practice on Wednesday, and it’s a given receiver Rashard Higgins will miss the team’s Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. But everyone else, including linebacker James Burgess, has a real chance to play this week, albeit with some limitations.Let’s look at Wednesday’s injury reports to see where both teams are at as they begin preparing for this week’s game.Browns:LB James Burgess (knee), limitedBurgess has missed the last two games with a knee injury. He did not practice at all last week, so seeing him at least get in a limited session has him potentially on track to return to his key reserve role in Week 6.TE Seth DeValve (hamstring), limitedSeth DeValve played just nine snaps last week after being limited in Week 1 with a quad injury, then missing Weeks 2 through 4 with his lingering hamstring issue. Getting DeValve back on the field and at full speed will be a big boon for a team that needs some better blocking help from its tight ends, as well as some sure-handed options for Baker Mayfield down the field.CB E.J. Gaines (groin), limitedThe Browns really needed someone to step up in Terrance Mitchell’s absence, and first-man up E.J. Gaines answered the call. After missing the end of preseason and first two games with an ankle injury, Gaines has been an integral boundary corner. Hue Jackson didn’t mention his groin injury as a concern during Wednesday’s press conference, so we’ll monitor his practice participation throughout the week. Losing him for the big test the Philip Rivers-led Chargers present would be a significant blow.OL Desmond Harrison (knee), limitedThis is not what you want to see heading into a big game. Desmond Harrison fully practiced through a shoulder injury in Week 4, wasn’t listed on the injury report last week, and is now dealing with a knee injury. We haven’t talked about this much, but the team would most likely go back to Joel Bitonio at left tackle should Harrison be forced to miss this week’s game. That would potentially mean the first start for rookie Austin Corbett at left guard. Corbett played three snaps last week after being a healthy scratch for two of the first four weeks.Rashard Higgins (knee), did not practiceIt’s no secret that Higgins is going to miss the next couple of weeks with an MCL sprain. Don’t look for any miracle recoveries and game-time decision type mysteries. Higgins is out in Week 6, and Rod Streeter and rookies Derrick Willies and Damion Ratley will compete for his snaps.Damarious Randall (heel), limitedDespite being banged up and dealing with a lingering heel issue, Damarious Randall has gutted it out and played pretty well over the last few weeks. After not practicing at all last Wednesday, Randall got in two limited sessions before drawing a questionable tag before Sunday’s win over Baltimore. He played every snap in Week 5. Expect the Browns to continue managing his practice reps to keep him fresh for Sundays. Chargers:OT Joe Barksdale (knee), limitedWR Travis Benjamin (foot)
Cleveland Browns Hoodie , did not practiceDE Joey Bosa (foot), did not practiceLB Jatavis Brown (groin), did not practiceTE Virgil Green (rib), full practiceOT Russell Okung (groin), limitedC Mike Pouncey (knee), limitedDT Damion Square (shoulder), fullK Caleb Sturgis (quad), limitedLB Kyzir White (knee), did not practiceJoe Barksdale, Travis Benjamin, Joey Bosa, Russell Okung, and Kyzir White all missed last week’s 26-10 win over the Oakland Raiders.ESPN’s Eric Williams said Bosa will not even travel to Cleveland for this week’s matchup. He also reported Benjamin was in a walking boot and was unlikely to play this week.Barksdale, Okung, and Mike Pouncey are the big question marks the Browns should be monitoring. While you’d imagine losing both starting tackles last week would be a big blow for any team, it didn’t end up mattering as the Chargers rolled. Sam Tevi filled in at left tackle, and Trent Scott locked down the right side. Scott, an undrafted former walk-on at Grambling State, was promoted to the team’s active roster last week before making his first NFL start. Tevi was a 2017 fourth-round pick from Utah.Bonus points if you can explain in the comments how you knew either of those two names before this reading.Despite the pretty easy win, the Chargers did struggle running the ball, which is where you’ll see the most issues with so many offensive line changes. They finished with only 74 yards on 2.5 yards per carry. Rivers still threw for for 333 yards and two scores and was only sacked once without Barksdale and Okung last week.Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said both tackles will be limited and will probably be game-time decisions for Week 6.Rookie linebacker Kyzir White will probably not play after having a minor knee procedure a few weeks ago, but Jatavis Brown has been making plays in his absence. Lynn said Brown would be limited this week, although he didn’t participate Wednesday. Losing both would mean a much less proven linebacker corps, giving the Browns a possible exploitable matchup this weekend.
